10/01/2014: The door panels on my 65 Vette were, at some point, were repainted (dyed). I believe these panels were originally black and resprayed red. The previous job was done in a lousy manner with spots flaking and looking like the picture above. Time to make them look a bit more presentably.
After removing the door panel from the car, I removed the "deluxe" chrome runners from the upper portion and gently scraped and sanded down areas that were flaking. Once completed, I began to tape off the remaining chrome runner.
The panel was then wiped down gently with acetone and ready to spray with Corvette America's 65 Red Dye. This was done with very light coats repeatedly, probably 5-6 light coats.
Here's the resprayed panel done.
Here's the completed panel with chrome runners installed.
While the panels were removed, I replaced the release latch spring along with the door handle spring as well as reinstalling the release latch rod with a cloth cover.
The final panel complete and remounted.
I lubed up all the door and window hardware, works much easier now.
The final panels are much better to look at, not perfect but beats spending $400-800 on reproductions.
