While the floor was being worked on and before the carpets were installed, I decided to pull the gauge cluster because speedo didn't work, tach bounced all over, oil, water & fuel gauges either didn't work or inaccurate and the glass lens were in backwards. I'm sure bubba was in here at one time. After using 1/4-20 long screws to secure the dash forward as I noted and disconnected each wire. Tedious job to say the least !! Here's a look from that point on.....
Deconstruction of gauge cluster begins.....
After finishing the gauge cluster and having sent the proper wires through the firewall, I realized that the some of the wiring in the engine compartment was not matching up with the new correct dash harness and the engine wiring had been hacked and spliced also. After further review, you guessed it, I replaced the original engine harness with a correct new one from Lectric Limited; new for a big block with alternator on driver side. I also decided to move my regulator and horn relay to the driver's side because of the congestion at the radiator core support caused by the half-assed AC install.
You can see how the wires in the right hand corner were interfering with the AC hoses and the hood latch....an accident waiting to happen especially at the horn relay which houses the 2 main feeds from the battery.
Plenty of room on the driver's side and even the dimples on the fender well(had to drill them out) where the 66's located these components
